Already Gone

Seems I only get to know you
When you’ve already left
Coffee stains on my towel
Windows left unbolted
A pesky old habit of yours
Traces of your cologne
Linger in the empty room
Magazines tossed under
Falling over shoes, cell-phone chargers
A bottle of Hershey’s syrup
Stowed behind the beer in the fridge
Half pound bread, abandoned
Like all those half uttered reproaches
The bulb in the hall still flickers
Just the way you left it, unchanged
